Issues of counteraction to crimes associated with religious and political extremism

Background. The high pace of life, due to scientific and technological progress, causes in modern conditions a significant complication of social, economic, technical, and environmental processes. Given the emerging realities, society and the state need a reliable and effective legal mechanism for ensuring security and law and order. In this regard, the problems of combating extremist crimes and offenses – religious and political extremism – become especially acute. The phenomenon of extremism takes place both in third world countries and in civilized societies. Since this topic is directly related to the global problems of our time, the spread of extremism today has directly affected all the states of the world. Thus, extremism is an urgent problem of our time, because both in the general context and in the aspect of individual countries, its solution is important for the entire international community. Therefore, the relevance is the theoretical and practical need to study the problems of combating extremism, especially at the initial stages to prevent development into various forms dangerous to society. Since extremism has both a chaotic and an orderly mechanism of occurrence, there is a need not only to overcome it, but also to develop sys-temic prevention. The purpose of the work is to study the problems of combating the spread of religious and political extremism in the Russian Federation in modern conditions, and to develop proposals for improvement. Materials and methods. The implementation of re-search tasks was achieved on the basis of an analysis of the positions of some scientists who study the organizational and legal foundations of combating the spread of religious and political extremism in the Russian Federation in modern conditions. The methodological potential includes methods of comparative legal and historical and legal analysis, which allow us to compare the approaches and features of the fight against the spread of religious and political extremism in the Russian Federation in modern conditions. Results. The prob-lems of combating the spread of religious and political extremism in the Russian Federation in modern conditions are studied, the issues of development and improvement of legislation in this area are outlined, attempts are made to address issues of preventing extremist crimes. Conclusions. It is concluded that countering the spread of religious and political extremism in the Russian Federation should be comprehensive and multifaceted. In order to solve the problems of combating extremist crimes, it is necessary to work on various areas. The ini-tial conditions for the development of extremism must be taken under special control; it is the active position of the state in this regard that is an important basis in developing the prevention of extremist crimes.
